The shame in naming streets

Guardian News Blog

As a young Militant in the 1980s I was always proud that I lived near streets named after Keir Hardie and Ellen Wilkinson in Felling, Gateshead and even better ‘Lenin Terrace’ in Chopwell. I very much doubt we’ll ever have to live in a Tony Blair Court or Gordon Brown Avenue. Labour leaders were working class heroes in the past.
